Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak will be crowned as the next Conservative Party leader and UK Prime Minister later today after a "grueling summer" of competition.

According to British media, they have spent the last six weeks struggling to convince Tory members that they have what it takes to lead the party - and the country - after Boris Johnson resigned.

But the nation is now hours away from finding out which of the pair have won the keys to Number 10.

So, at midday, the chairman of the 1922 MPs' committee, Sir Graham Brady – will announce the result.

As a result, Johnson will return to the Tories' backbenches later this week, while the winner of the leadership race will look ahead to naming their first team after visiting the Queen at Balmoral.
