This afternoon in Sofia, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski participated in the meeting with the head of the Bulgarian interim government, Galab Donev, with whom they discussed key topics on saving and the consequences of the energy crisis.

They agreed to form a working group that should determine the technical aspects related to the signing of the agreement in the field of electricity for the supply of 200 megawatt hours of electricity for the needs of North Macedonia from March next year.

"As responsible politicians and governments, we have an obligation to the citizens and to the economy to offer everything we have to make the conditions as good as possible, in times of energy crisis like this one.

That is why we are here today together with neighboring Bulgaria to find a solution for the supply of electricity during the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of next year, under conditions that will be optimal for the economy", said Prime Minister Kovacevski in joint press conference in Sofia with colleague Donev.

Kovacevski emphasized that in the meeting our delegation showed the details of what we need, the requests that also come from the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, therefore the chairman of the Chamber was also in the delegation.

"Initially, together with the Republic of Bulgaria, we agreed that on Wednesday we will immediately form a working group consisting of the Ministries of Economy of our country, the Ministry of Energy of Bulgaria, as well as ESM and other companies within Bulgaria, where we will discuss technical parameters related to capacities and electricity transport.

As for the prices that will have to be determined in accordance with the legislation of Bulgaria in accordance with the EU directive and legislation and in accordance with the legislation of North Macedonia.

We also talked about the quantities needed in our country, given that Bulgaria is a country that exports electricity, thanks to the capacities it has, especially the electricity produced by the thermal power plant", said Kovacevski.

The Bulgarian Technical Prime Minister Donev emphasized that in the meeting the two reconfirmed the good assessments of the assumptions made for the development of the dialogue between the two countries and that work will be done to deepen constructive cooperation in all areas of common interest that are included in the Neighborhood Agreement well and what has been agreed between the protocols of the intergovernmental commission.

"We agreed to continue working according to sectors and working groups.

One of the topics is the negotiations that took place today in the field of energy and we very quickly responded to the appeal for help from North Macedonia to solve the main challenges that come before them and with them in the energy sector Bulgaria has traditionally been and still is a leader in the Balkans and specific opportunities for cooperation in the field of electricity and gas transmission were discussed, since Bulgaria has great capacities both for the needs of the economy and for the industry of North Macedonia and for households.

It is about 200 megawatt hours of electricity transmission for the period until March 31, 2023," said Donev.

In Sofia, Kovacevski will also meet with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev.

Apart from energy, other issues are also expected to be discussed in the meetings.
