Ranchi:

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, whose political future has been clouded by corruption allegations, proved his majority in the Assembly today.

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led coalition alleged that the BJP was trying to topple the state government through engineering flaws.

Addressing the assembly, Hemant Soren accused the opposition BJP of trying to create a "civil war-like situation" in the country by fanning riots to win the elections.

He also alleged that his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma was involved in "buying out MLAs from Jharkhand" to topple his government.

Regarding the sloganeering of BJP MLAs in the assembly, the Chief Minister said, "Opposition has destroyed democracy. BJP has been indulging in horse-trading of MLAs. We will show our strength in the House."

"We have heard about people buying clothes, ration, grocery, but it is only BJP which is engaged in buying MLAs," he alleged.

The ruling coalition's legislators reached state capital Ranchi in a special flight from Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh yesterday.

These MLAs were allegedly kept in a luxury resort in Chhattisgarh to prevent them from falling prey to BJP horse-trading.

The MLAs returned from there and spent the night together in the guest house of the state and today they were taken directly to the assembly.

When asked by reporters why he was proving the trust vote, Hemant Soren said, "Who wants a trust vote? Opposition?"

He said that "the opposition has spread a web of conspiracies to bring me down. They will fall into their own trap."

The opposition BJP says that Hemant Soren should be disqualified as an MLA as he himself has violated election norms by taking a mining lease.

The party has called for fresh elections and demanded that the chief minister resign "on moral grounds".

If Soren is disqualified as an MLA, he will not be able to continue as Chief Minister.

Soren and his party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha have accused the BJP of taking advantage of the crisis and trying to topple the elected government by luring the ruling coalition's legislators on the pattern of states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.

The Election Commission has submitted its opinion to the Governor.

The governor can announce his decision on Soren any day.

The ruling alliance has 49 MLAs in the 81-member assembly while the majority figure is 41.

The single largest party is Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's 30, Congress 18 and Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has one MLA.

The main opposition BJP has 26 MLAs.
