Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that during a telephone conversation with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, he urged the EU to urgently allocate the next tranche of aid to Ukraine and sought a new wave of European sanctions against Russia.

Zelensky warned Europeans that they were in for a tough winter due to cuts in Russian oil and gas exports, adding that he and von der Leyen had agreed on "steps to limit Russia's windfall profits from oil and gas sales."

Last week, the G7 countries announced the planned limitation of Russian oil export prices.

The Kremlin has announced that it will stop selling oil to all countries that impose restrictions.

"This winter, Russia is preparing a decisive energy strike on all Europeans," Zelensky said in his daily video message after Moscow announced the suspension of Nord Stream 1 supplies.

European countries that have provided diplomatic and military support to Ukraine have accused Russia of using energy supplies as weapons.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday that his government assumed that gas supplies would stop completely in December, but expressed confidence that Germany would survive the winter.
