BGN 289,151 were collected from fines imposed by criminal decrees for established violations in the movement of heavy and oversized vehicles on the republican road network until the end of August, reports the press center of the Road Infrastructure Agency.

The proceeds are about 20% more compared to the same period of 2021, when BGN 240,937 were collected. From the beginning of the year to the present, the mobile teams of the Road Infrastructure Agency have carried out about 7,800 inspections on the republican road network throughout the country.

The goal is to minimize the risks to the life and health of travelers by ensuring safe conditions for driving on roads with intensive heavy-duty traffic and limiting the conditions for traffic accidents.

Mobile API teams check the driver's license documents, and using mobile electronic scales for axle-by-axle measurement of road vehicles, the values of the permissible maximum axle load and the maximum permissible mass are determined.

The dimensions of the vehicles are also measured by technical means.

Three state institutions are starting a specialized action on the roads from today

The cases of vehicles where the weight is found to be almost double the permitted axle load and maximum permissible mass are no exception.

For 4-axle vehicles, the maximum permissible weight is 32 tons, and for 5-axle PPS - 40 tons.

The passage of overloaded vehicles on national roads is not only a serious danger to the safety of all road users, but also leads to serious destruction of the road surface.

During the inspections of vehicles over 12 tons for overloading and compliance with the requirements for the movement of oversized and heavy vehicles, 299 acts were drawn up to establish administrative violations and 277 criminal decrees were issued with a total value of BGN 583,600.

In the event of violations under the Roads Act, the Road Traffic Act and the requirements of the Ordinance on the Traffic of Oversized and Heavy Vehicles, the violator shall be drawn up with an act establishing an administrative offense and a penal decree shall be issued.

The Road Infrastructure Agency can issue criminal decrees and impose fines, which according to the provisions of the Roads Act are from BGN 1,000 to BGN 5,000, and under the Road Traffic Act from BGN 500 to BGN 3,000.

The revenue from tolls and permits from oversized and heavy vehicles collected by the Central Administration of the API and the regional road administrations until the end of August 2022 is nearly BGN 3.5 million.
