Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena face to face over Dussehra rally venue

Mumbai:

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday advised Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to avoid going on a confrontational path over the Shiv Sena's annual Dussehra rally.

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and Shinde-led rebel faction have demanded Shivaji Park ground here for the party's annual Dussehra rally.

When asked by journalists about the issue, former Chief Minister Pawar said, "A Chief Minister should avoid the path of confrontation and take everyone along."

Shiv Sena, founded by Bal Thackeray in the year 1966, has been holding Dussehra rally since its inception.

Shinde led a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray in June this year, which led to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government of the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress.

When asked about Pawar's advice, Shinde faction spokesperson Naresh Mhaske referred to the earlier conflict with the Thackeray family.

Mhaske asked, "When then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray arrested Union Minister Narayan Rane while having a meal, did Pawar advise Thackeray to avoid confrontation?

When 'Yuvraj' (a clear reference to Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray) makes remarks against Shinde, does Pawar ask him to exercise restraint?
