Gladys Nano was released today from the post of Director General of the Albanian Police, the Exit portal reports.

At today's meeting of the government, two deputy ministers were also released - of defense and of infrastructure, BTA informs.

The Director General of Police will be temporarily replaced by Deputy Director of Police Tonin Vokai.

Interior Minister Bledar Čuči announced the decision, saying he had been fired because he had not met the targets set.

There were a series of incidents under Nano's rule in Albania, including the death of a child on Himare beach after being hit by a speedboat driven by a police officer.

In addition, there were many incidents of shootings, murders and domestic violence in Albania during the summer, the website notes.

Gladys Nano was appointed to the position of Director General of the Albanian Police last October, having previously held the position of Director of the Directorate for Combating Terrorism.
