Ekrem Rexhepi, involved in the macabre rape of an 11-year-old girl in Pristina, was convicted of domestic violence and aggravated theft.

The 27-year-old was sentenced to six months of conditional imprisonment by the Basic Court of Pristina for domestic violence.

Monday, July 29, was not the first time that Ekrem Rexhepi, suspected of involvement in the rape of an 11-year-old girl, faced justice.

Although this time for a macabre crime, he has experienced trials five more times.

The 27-year-old, in December 2020, was sentenced by the Foundation of Pristina to six months of conditional imprisonment and a fine of 300 euros for domestic violence.

In the judgment of the Court, it is emphasized that this sentence will not be executed, if Rexhepi does not commit any other criminal offense within one year.

In cases of domestic violence, the Criminal Code of Kosovo foresees a prison sentence of up to three years.

Another criminal offense for which he was sentenced with an omnipotent decision, was aggravated theft.

The Basic Court of Pristina has shown to the television that Ekrem Rexhepi has served a one-year prison sentence for this crime, as well as paid a fine of 400 euros.

In the other three cases, which were also related to the criminal offense of theft, he was acquitted.

In order for the persons involved in one of the most serious post-war events in Kosovo to receive meritorious punishments, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Nita Shala, indicated that they will create a professional commission.

"Establishing the professional commission is exactly the reason, it is exactly the answer that will help us understand what institutional steps should be taken, whether in terms of changing any law applicable in our country, changing any procedure or way of acting responsible institutions", said Shala.

After the publication of the news, Marigona Shabiu, from the Youth Initiative for Human Rights, says that many people shocked her with their comments.

"We are shocked by the comments we saw yesterday after the reporting of the case and after the reporting of the actions that we as a civil society will undertake, where such an act is legitimized by many men and this is extremely painful and disturbing and it is an alarm that we as a society must take concrete steps to treat this as a national emergency", stated Shabiu.

Three of the five arrested for this case are minors, while the Police have already arrested all of them.

For 4 of them, a detention measure of 1 month has been set, while the last person was arrested on Tuesday afternoon.
