A commercial airliner has been forced to make an emergency landing after a fire broke out in one of its engines mid-flight.

According to foreign media, the Telegraph reports, passengers flying from Guadalajara, Mexico to Los Angeles have described the terrifying moment when they saw the engine of their plane "burning" in the middle of the flight.

As it is known, the terrible incident happened immediately after the VivaAerobus flight had departed from Guadalajara.

And instead of settling into their seats to relax, some of the passengers had to face this situation where the engine of the Airbus A320 burst into flames.

Flight VB518 passenger Kimberly Garcia said she heard an explosion about 10 minutes after the plane took off.

When she looked out the window, she grabbed her cell phone to capture the footage.

"Everyone started to panic," Garcia confessed.

"You could hear screams, crying and people praying."

As the passengers prayed, cried and watched the sparks fall towards the ground, the pilots leading the captain of flight VB518 made the decision to turn back.

After 45 tense minutes in the air, the plane landed back in Guadalajara.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

VivaAerobus has confirmed that the incident happened minutes after the plane took off at 22:03 (local time).
