Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said Moscow was not considering creating a demilitarized zone around the plant, something the US has been pushing for.

Earlier, the deputy head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Ryabkov, stated that the Western-promoted idea of establishing a demilitarized zone around the Zaporizhia NPP would lead to a further increase in risk, TASS recalls.

Peskov declined to answer a question about whether the Kremlin thought it was possible for the plant to be included in Russia's electricity grid.

"It's a technology issue. I can't (tell) you. You have to ask our experts," he said.

An IAEA team is on its way to the Zaporizhia NPP

The Russian side is interested in the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Zaporizhia NPP and considers it necessary, remaining open to cooperation and interaction, the Kremlin spokesman said regarding the upcoming visit to the headquarters of a team of the nuclear safety agency of the United Nations.

"Possible conditions for further actions will be discussed on the spot, and everything will depend on the details," he noted.

"I repeat once again: We have been waiting for this mission for a long time, we consider it necessary," added Peskov.

He also said that Russia would provide all the necessary security for the IAEA mission in the Ukrainian territory under its control "given the risks that constantly prevail there and which are related to the incessant shelling of that territory from the Ukrainian side."

However, Peskov specified that the IAEA mission will arrive at the headquarters through the zone controlled by Kyiv.

"You know that the entry into this territory will take place from the zone controlled by the Ukrainian armed forces. There, as far as I understand, security will be provided by the Ukrainians," he added.

Both Russia and Ukraine have denied shelling the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in recent weeks, while accusing the other of doing so, Reuters noted.
