The Greek Ministry of Education plans to ease the health protocol in schools imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The line minister announced the changes as part of the preparations for the new school year, BNR reported.

The Ministry of Education in Greece will not implement the previous heavy health protocol for students, Minister Niki Karameos told the media.

Without mandatory wearing of masks and without tests for Covid-19, the minister suggests, but a decision of the specialists of the National Pandemic Control Council is awaited.

Some experts are of the opinion that wearing a mask should be maintained for all students, regardless of age.

The Union of Psychiatrists in Greece has informed the Ministry of Health of a sharp rise among minors in cases of depression and borderline mental states as a result of stress and restrictive measures against the pandemic.

It is recommended that more school psychologists work with children, and that parents monitor the mental health of students.
