With the best mark of his life and a second place in the Lausanne athletics meeting, Cuban Lázaro Martínez secured a place in the triple jump final of the Wanda Diamond League 2022 this Friday.

The Guantanamo man, indoor world champion this year, now achieved three unprecedented jumps in his career, the best of 17.50 meters in the first attempt.

He then stretched to 17.42 and 17.38 meters, all higher than the 17.30 meters he displayed as his best outdoors.

His outstanding performance in the Swiss city was only surpassed by the 17.67 meters of fellow Cuban Andy Díaz, who no longer represents the Island's athletics federation.

Jordan Díaz, Cuban nationalized Spanish, this time monopolized the third position with 17.44 meters.

With his performance, Lázaro added seven units to his accumulated and now with nine he shares with the Chinese Zhu the fifth and sixth positions in the ladder of the specialty.

After the three scoring tests, both will be among the six contestants in the final that will host Zurich on September 7 and 8.

In the triple jump for women, the Venezuelan favorite Yulimar Rojas reigned, the only one with more than 15 meters (15.31).

Behind were the Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts (14.64) and the Ukrainian Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (14.31).

With a record for the competition, the Dutch Femke Bol signed her leadership, owner of 52.95 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles that extended her state of grace, after winning three titles at the recent European Athletics Championships in Munich 2022.

Along the same lines was the performance of Fracine Niyonsaba, from Burundi, the best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:26.80 minutes.

The Norwegian Olympic champion of Tokyo 2020, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, set a season mark of 3:29.05 minutes in the 1,500 meters;

Dominican Marileidy Paulino led the 400 meters with 48.29 seconds and Puerto Rican Jasmine Camacho-Quinn –also queen in the Japanese capital– won the 100 meter hurdles with a mark of 12.34 seconds.

That last time is recorded as a record for the meeting and erases the 12.40 established by the American Gail Devers since July 2002.

The Lausanne meeting was the eleventh stop for the Diamond League.

Before the final, the only thing left is the passage through Brussels on September 2 to close the qualifying process for the remaining modalities.

To share the coveted diamonds, the six athletes with the best accumulated field specialties and the eight in track specialties will attend Zurich, all without the support of the points accumulated so far.
