Sonia Gandhi will preside over the CWC meeting.

New Delhi:

Senior Congress leader M. Mallikarjun Kharge has said that efforts will be made to bring back Rahul Gandhi as Congress President as there is no one in the party other than him who has pan-India appeal.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said that anyone wishing to lead the party should be known across the country and should be supported from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and from West Bengal to Gujarat.

"He (Congress president) should be a well-known, accepted person in the entire Congress party," Kharge told PTI here on Friday.

There is no one like this (in the party with such stature)."

He said all senior leaders had "forced" Sonia Gandhi to join the party and work and requested Rahul Gandhi to "come to the front and fight".

Kharge asked, "You tell me the alternative.

Who is (other than Rahul Gandhi) in the party?" On reports that Rahul Gandhi was unwilling to take over, Kharge said a request would be made to him and he would be asked "for the sake of the party, for the sake of the country, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh". (RSS)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be asked to take charge to fight and keep the country united.

Kharge also referred to the party's upcoming 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' and said Rahul Gandhi is needed for 'Jodo India'.

The former Union minister said, "We will ask him, we will force him and request him (to return as Congress president).

We stand with them.

We will try to persuade them.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's highest decision-making body, will hold a digital meeting on Sunday to approve the schedule for the dates for the election of the Congress President.

Sonia Gandhi will preside over the CWC meeting.

Many leaders are publicly encouraging Rahul Gandhi to become the party chief again.

However, uncertainty and mystery remain on this issue.

Many party insiders say that Rahul Gandhi is firm on his stand that he will not become the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president.

In 2019, he resigned from the post of Congress President after the party suffered a second consecutive defeat in the parliamentary elections.

Sonia Gandhi, who took over the reins of the party again as interim president, also offered to step down in August 2020 following an open rebellion by a section of leaders known as the G-23, but was replaced by the CWC. urged to remain.
