Poland and the Czech Republic will guard Slovakia's skies after Bratislava decided to ground its MiG-29 fighter jets.

It is possible that they will be presented as military aid to Ukraine, BNR reported.

According to the signed agreement, Polish and Czech aircraft will carry out air defense over their neighboring country until it receives the 14 American F-16 fighter jets it ordered.

According to the plan, they should be ready in 2024. Thus, Bratislava stops using its old Russian fighters.

Slovakian authorities have expressed readiness to send the 11 planes to Ukraine, which continues to look to its allies for Soviet weaponry that its soldiers are trained to use.

A new gas pipeline between Poland and Slovakia enters operation

Defense Minister Yaroslav Nad said that there is still no final agreement on the subject with Kyiv, but there is - and I quote - "political will" and "the sense to help those who need help".

So far, Slovakia has provided Ukraine with S-300 anti-aircraft systems, helicopters, howitzers and rocket launchers.
