Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti stated that as a result of the frequent military maneuvers of the army of Serbia, along with that of Russia, an increase in the number of NATO forces in Kosovo is necessary, the MIA correspondent from Pristina reported.

In an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, broadcast today by Kosovo media, Kurti said that there are 48 Serbian bases around Kosovo, so a greater NATO presence in the country will increase its security.

The Kosovo prime minister notes that his government has increased the defense budget by 52 percent and the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) now numbers 5,000 soldiers and 3,000 reservists.

However, Kurti said that "due to the threats from Serbia and Russia, a significant increase in the number of NATO troops in Kosovo is urgently needed", which would "significantly improve the security" of the country.

"There are 48 Serbian military bases around Kosovo. Russia and Serbia cooperate closely in military policy, together they carried out 104 maneuvers and activities in 2021 - part of the armed forces of Belarus also participated... It would also help us if more German soldiers participate in NATO's defense forces. In addition, KFOR troops can help us further develop our defense structure and skills," Kurti told Die Welt.
