Bhopal:

A major action has been taken in the case of a crack in the under construction dam on the Karam river in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh on August 11.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has suspended seven engineers and one SDO of the Water Resources Department on charges of gross negligence in duty.

Earlier in the day, MP Congress chief Kamal Nath had questioned who has been found guilty by the probe panel set up in the case and why no action was taken against those accused by the probe panel even after a fortnight.

Earlier, two companies related to the dam were blacklisted.

The government has blacklisted ANS Construction and Sarathi Construction.

Along with this, the registration has also been suspended with notice to both the companies.

The opposition had also raised questions on the government regarding the construction of the dam and the ruling party, especially Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra and his relationship with the two companies.

Under the chairmanship of Additional Secretary, Water Resources Department Ashish Kumar to decide the circumstances, reasons and responsibility of the responsible officers for the damage caused to the Karam Dam in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and to suggest that such incidents should not happen again in future. A 4-member inquiry committee was constituted.

Apart from Ashish Kumar in the committee, Dr. Rahul Kumar Jaiswal, scientist of National Institute of Hydrology, Bhopal, Deepak Satpute, Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department, Bureau of Design and Hydel and Director of Dam Safety Bodhi, Anil Singh were there.

Significantly, a major dam accident was averted in Dhar district of MP.

The news of leakage in the dam came on August 11. After this, a major accident was prevented by running Operation Caram day and night.

Water was given a new way by running the machines for three days.

During this, the entire administrative staff including three cabinet ministers, collector, commissioner, SP was gathering.

There was also a plan to lay gunpowder if the rocks blocked the way.

In Bhopal too, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with top officials of all departments, would sit in the situation room till late at night at 2-3 o'clock, and then the strategy used to be made from early morning itself.

Every moment information was being sent to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, it was decided that the water of the dam would be emptied by making a bypass.

The strategy that was made was that the dam should be emptied, if the water had been removed by breaking the wall immediately, it could have caused havoc in many dams.

Therefore, it was decided that the water should be removed by making a bypass channel, first the water comes out less and then increases, so that if the wall is cut, a large part will come out, will not harm the village.

The bypass was planned from 6 o'clock, the water started coming out at 9:30.

The exit from the situation of Karam Dam is the highest example of disaster management.
