Swiss authorities have set a target of 15 percent voluntary gas savings in winter in view of the looming shortage in Europe, BTA reported.

Since Switzerland is entirely dependent on natural gas imports, a shortage in Europe will directly affect the country and make buying fuel more difficult, the government said in a statement.

The price of gas in Europe once again crossed 2,900 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters

The authorities propose a voluntary reduction of gas consumption by 15 percent compared to the levels of the previous five years for the period October 2022 - March 2023, the announcement also states.

Western countries accuse Russia of using gas as a weapon and purposefully cutting supplies through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline in retaliation for sanctions.
