A 36-year-old Syrian with an address in Harmanli tried to bribe a police inspector in front of the District Office in the city.

This is what Dimo Chobanov, head of Haskovo Road Police, told NOVA.

The case is from two days ago, when the man was stopped for a road test.

It was found that he was a disqualified driver.

"And when they take him to the Regional Office, he puts a 200-euro bill in the pocket of a junior inspector," Chobanov pointed out.

The test later revealed that the man had used methamphetamine.

He was detained and two pre-trial proceedings were initiated against him - for driving a motor vehicle after using intoxicating substances and for attempted bribery.

The case does not end like that - during a subsequent inspection of the Syrian man's home, the law enforcement authorities found illegal immigrants.

Attempt to bribe executioners in Sofia

However, this is not the first case of a foreigner offering a bribe after a traffic violation.

Last week in Svilengrad, a Greek citizen was caught driving with 1.51 per thousand.

After being taken to the Regional Office, he took out a 100 BGN banknote and left it on the junior inspector's desk.

"Apparently the drivers are already afraid of the imposed sanctions and are trying to get away from the letter of the law," commented Chobanov.
