The US emissary for the Western Balkans and the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Gabriel Escobar, has reached the presidency.

He was received there by the head of state, Vjosa Osmani.

Along with Escobar in the meeting with the president is the American ambassador, Jeffrey Hovenier.

The meeting is being closed to the media, while they were only allowed to take pictures during Escobar's reception.

On the first day of his stay in Kosovo, Escobar is expected to meet the leaders of the opposition parties.

Escobar's visit comes after increased tensions between Kosovo and Serbia due to Kosovo's decision to reciprocate illegal documents and license plates.

Meanwhile, the special envoy of the European Union for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, will stay in Kosovo tomorrow.

The talks in Brussels, which began 11 years ago, aim at an agreement to normalize relations between the two countries.

Serbia counts on the support of Russia in the opposition to the independence of Kosovo, which is recognized by the United States and the main Western countries.

Normalization is a condition for both parties to progress towards European integration./
