Europe is facing its worst drought in at least 500 years, the European Drought Observatory says in its latest report.

In the report of the Joint Research Center of the European Commission for the month of August, a clear deficit of soil moisture was found in 47 percent of the territories of the continent.

Due to the drought and heat in Europe, the "stones of hunger" appeared

On 17 percent of the territories, the problem directly affects the vegetation, BNR reports.

Unusually dry and warm conditions are expected to persist across the Euro-Mediterranean region into November.

The drought is already taking its toll in reducing electricity generation and river shipping.

The expected decline in corn and sunflower yields for 2022 is, respectively, 16 and 12 percent.
