Imran Khan had threatened government establishments and government officials while addressing a rally

Islamabad:

A case has been registered against the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan under anti-terror sections.

He has been accused of making provocative speeches and preventing the judiciary from doing its job.

Earlier, Pakistan's Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Sunday that the government was considering registering a case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan for threatening state institutions and making provocative statements while addressing a rally.

Sanaullah told a press conference that the government would seek legal advice before initiating any case against Khan.

Addressing a public meeting here on Saturday, Khan had threatened to register a case against top police officials, a woman magistrate, the Election Commission of Pakistan and political opponents for the behavior of his colleague Shahbaz Gill.

Sanaullah alleged that the speech of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief was a continuation of the tendency to target the army and other institutions.

The law minister said this was happening all the time - after the Lasbella incident when six army officers were killed in an operation, Gill tried to instigate the army ranks to go against his top command and Imran then threatens a woman judge and police officers to perform their duties.

Sanaullah said the Home Ministry has prepared a report on his recent speech and is consulting the Advocate General and the Law Ministry before taking a final decision on the matter in a few days.

The media watchdog in Pakistan has banned the live telecast of speeches of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan by all satellite television channels with immediate effect.

The move comes after Khan had threatened government establishments and government officials a few hours ago while addressing a rally in Islamabad.

Despite repeated warnings, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) said in a release on Saturday that television channels have failed to stop the broadcast of content against "government establishments". “It has been observed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Imran Khan in his speeches/statements is continuously making baseless allegations against government establishments and propagating hate speeches through provocative statements, which has led to law and order situation. The order situation may be difficult to maintain and there is a possibility of breach of public peace.
