Proper skin care is extremely important, especially if you have dermatological problems.

Then our daily rituals can damage it even more, without us even realizing it.

Why does our skin itch after showering or washing?

There are several reasons.

Sometimes the skin is very dry and showering, especially with hot water, can dry it out even more as the natural oils are removed.

Also, the cause can be sensitivity to soap that is either too harsh for your skin or you haven't washed it thoroughly.

For some, it's also a condition known as aquagenic urticaria, known from the fact that water activates nerve endings in the skin.

This is why the skin is very itchy after showering.

However, this condition is rare.

If the itching doesn't stop after showering, we can help ourselves with some home treatments or simple habit changes:

  • After the shower, gently wipe the skin with a towel, do not rub.

  • Change the soap.

  • Change your routine.

If you have a habit of staying in a hot shower for a long time, try a shorter shower with lukewarm water.

Some recommend a cooling balm, but talk to a professional about this first.

  • Drink more fluids.

Hydration also has a significant impact on the health and appearance of the skin.

  • Use a moisturizer regularly.

Mayo Clinic dermatologist Don Davis explained why he always advises patients to follow the three-minute rule: “We always recommend moisturizing after washing.

The perfect time to do this is right after you step on the bathroom floor."

The skin is maximally hydrated immediately after showering or washing.

For three minutes you have space to help the skin retain this moisture by applying lotion or cream, explains the dermatologist.
