The water supply in Svoge has been restored.

This was confirmed by the head of the Sofia-region Water and Sewer Administration, Ivan Ivanov, to Nova TV.

He explained that the river Iskretska has returned to its full volume.

According to him, the wave was tidal and the water was probably held back by a land mass.

According to the latest data from the Sofia District Waterworks, the flow rate is 90 liters per second.

From a little over 130 liters per second needed.

Expert on the water crisis in Svoge: The problem will be solved within a week

NEK issued an opinion on the case.

It says that because of the sudden decrease in water in the Iskretska River, the National Electric Company conducted an inspection.

They state that there is a reduced surface runoff in the area of the canal, which is the result of "the continuing low water level throughout the country, typical for this period of the year".

NEK also notes that "the facilities of NEK EAD are located 11 km from the water supply system of the village of Iskrets and there is no technical possibility to support the water supply system of the village of Iskrets given their remoteness and the karst mountain massif".

Here is the full position of NEK:

Position of the National Electric Company EAD in relation to the drought that has occurred along the Iskretska River.

The main purpose of the facilities from the "Petrohan" cascade is to provide drinking water for the municipalities of Montana, Vratsa, Berkovitsa and Varshets.

Before reaching these consumers, the water is energetically processed through three stages of hydroelectric plants.

The power plants of the "Petrohan" cascade (Petrohan HPP, Burzia HPP and Klisura HPP) are owned by "Energo-Pro - Bulgaria" EAD.

NEK EAD does not own hydroelectric plants in the area.

Part of the cascade are also several collection channels with water intakes and three equalizers, which are maintained by the "Dams and Cascades" enterprise of NEK EAD.

The management of water from the facilities is carried out according to the issued permit and the monthly schedules of the Ministry of Education and Culture in the part for the Srechenska Bara dam.

In recent weeks, there have been no changes to the operating regime of the facilities operated by the Dams and Cascades enterprise.

All hydrotechnical facilities were built along the Burzia River and fall into the Ogosta River catchment.

Only the collecting channel "Iskretsky" falls into the watershed of the Iskar River, whose left tributary is the Iskretska River.

Given the sharp decrease in the outflow of the Iskretska River, in the area of the village of Iskrets, on 17.08.2022, we undertook an inspection of the hydrotechnical facilities of the Iskretski collection channel managed by the company "Dams and Cascades".

The inspection revealed reduced surface runoff in the area of the canal, which is the result of the ongoing low water level throughout the country, typical for this period of the year.

The total amount of water from the derivation, which was measured during the inspection, is about 40 l/sec., with a built-up water amount for the channel of 677 l/sec.

After a request made by the FDPBZN for assistance, already on 17.08.2022, all water intakes from the "Iskretsky" collection channel were disconnected, i.e.

no water enters the channel from the bypass.

This 40 l/sec.

from the "Iskretski" collection channel will not have the expected effect on the water level of the Iskretska river, given the karst nature of the mountain massif, the numerous cracks and caves in the area where the water soaks up.

This amount of water is insignificant considering the geological features of the area and the geographical distance from the Iskretska River.

It is important to point out that the facilities of NEK EAD are located 11 km from the water supply system of the village of Iskrets and there is no technical possibility to support the water supply system of the village of Iskrets given their remoteness and the karst mountain massif.
