Ukraine threatened today to dismantle the Kerch bridge, for the construction of which Moscow spent a lot of money to connect Crimea with Russia, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.

"This bridge is an illegal structure and Ukraine did not give permission for its construction. It harms the ecology of the peninsula and must therefore be dismantled. It does not matter how: voluntarily or not," said the advisor to the Ukrainian president Mykhailo Podoliak.

The Kerch Bridge, opened by Russian President Vladimir Putin in May 2018, is a colossal project that took two years to complete.

A lot of money was invested in it to build 19 kilometers of bridge to connect mainland Russia with the Crimean peninsula, which it annexed in 2014.

Podolyak's now veiled threat came after a series of explosions in Crimea, used by Russia as a logistics base for its invasion of Ukraine.

Yesterday there was an attack on an ammunition depot at a military base in northern Crimea, and Moscow said it was sabotage, but did not say who was responsible.

A week earlier, explosions rocked the Russian Saki military airfield in the western part of the peninsula, killing one person and injuring several others.

Kyiv has not claimed responsibility for these attacks, but Ukrainian officials did not fail to ironize the incidents, saying they were caused by a poorly extinguished cigarette or poor compliance with fire safety regulations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that Kyiv will never give up its intention to regain Crimea.
