A monument to the world-famous singer Muslim Magomayev was inaugurated in Baku's Seaside National Park.

APA reports that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening.

The head of our state made a speech at the event.

Speech of President Ilham Aliyev

- Dear friends, today is the 80th anniversary of the birth of Muslim Magomayev, the eldest son of the Azerbaijani people.

Today, a monument to Muslim Magomayev has been erected in one of the most beautiful places in Baku.

We have gathered for this ceremony.

People who know Muslim and love him, today we will open this beautiful monument together.

The people of Azerbaijan are rightfully proud of Muslim Magomayev.

Because he was both a great singer and a great composer.

He had no equal in the Soviet stage, and even today, the songs performed by Muslim Magomayev make us all emotional.

Each of us has our own memories of Muslim, including me.

I have known Muslim and Tamara since I was a teenager.

They were very dear guests of our house.

I have many wonderful memories.

Of course, every year in August, we welcomed Muslim and Tamara to our home and celebrated Muslim's birthday at our home.

Muslim was a person who was very attached to his native country.

Although he spent most of his career on tour in Moscow and other cities of the Soviet Union, he came to Baku several times a year, gave concerts and was in contact with his friends.

In particular, we had many meetings and very cordial relations both in Moscow and Baku.

As you know, when Muslim Magomayev's father died heroically in the last days of the Second World War, Muslim was not yet 3 years old and he grew up in the family of his uncle Jamaleddin teacher.

Of course, my father Heydar Aliyev also paid great attention to his activities when he gained fame in the All-Union at a young age.

I can say that he cared for her fatherly.

Because he knew him both as a great singer and as a very nice person.

Each of us knew Muslim as a great artist, singer, composer, and most importantly, a beautiful person, a decent person, a very reliable friend.

Although there was a big age difference between us, it was never felt.

Because we were friends for many years, and I especially remember my last meeting with Mehriban at Muslim and Tamara's house in Moscow.

Muslim's health was not so good anymore, there were problems, but despite this, he welcomed us very sincerely and we had very sincere conversations while we were in their house for a few hours, we remembered the past, we remembered my father, my late mother, we remembered those beautiful days and we spent a lot of time with Mehriban. we were emotional.

As you know, Muslim had certain problems with his legs in recent years.

However, there was such a friendly atmosphere that even later it became clear that Muslim, who had not left the house for many years, came out and saw us off.

Little did we know that this was our last meeting.

Tamara and Muslim - both of them great artists, world-famous singers, were so attached to each other that their love story and friendship story is a legend.

They met in Baku and my late father always remembered those days.

Of course, talking about Muslim today is both easy and difficult.

Because he was such a great personality, both as an artist and as a person.

You can talk about him for hours.

At the same time, people who know him closely, who love him, of course, note all his talents and remember him first of all as a person.

I'm sure you feel the same way.

It is enough to mention only two facts that confirm that he is a great artist.

Before he was 30 years old, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan, and at the age of 31 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Soviet Union.

This is a rare occurrence for a pop singer.

In general, Muslim's voice was a gift from God, his unique style of performance was a phenomenon.

Neither then nor today has there been a shield to his level.

Muslim's attachment to his native land has also shown itself in his works.

The songs he composed, dedicated to Azerbaijan, the Land of Fire, and the Caspian Sea, are as magnificent as they are full of love for the Motherland.

Those songs live today and will live forever.

The last song composed by Muslim is very sad.

We heard this song at Muslim's farewell ceremony at the Philharmonic hall in Baku and were very moved and moved.

Because we did not know that this song was written and composed by Muslim himself.

The name of that song was "Goodbye Baku" and he understood that he would not be able to come to Baku, to his favorite city, to pass through these streets, to meet his friends in Baku.

It is hard to imagine that a person who loves life like him, who likes to be with friends like him, look,

composes this farewell song and says goodbye to us, to the city.

At the same time, it shows that even when his health was not so good, his talent, that he was a great artist, was still in place.

"Goodbye Baku", of course, is the song in which Muslim sang his feelings, but at the same time, it is impossible to say "Goodbye Baku".

Because Muslim is with us.

He is in Baku today, his beautiful monument will be opened today and Baku will never forget him.

The people of Azerbaijan will never forget him.

His memory will live in the hearts of those who knew him, his great voice, his art will live forever.

I want to congratulate you all on this wonderful occasion.

First of all, I want to congratulate dear Tamara, Muslim friends, and myself that we erected this monument and I think we chose the most suitable place for this monument.

The boulevard is the eye of Baku, the center of Baku, the crown of Baku, and the souls of our genius artists roam the boulevard, including Muslim.

Therefore, our citizens approaching this monument will say "Hello Muslim" and the Muslim will live forever.

Thank you.
