Environmentally-oriented non-governmental organizations operating in Azerbaijan have appealed to international organizations regarding the environmental terrorism committed by Armenians living illegally in Azerbaijan's territories in Lachin and surrounding areas.

APA reports that the application states:

"We, as non-governmental organizations operating in Azeryabjan, express our concern about the illegal Armenian population brought from different countries of the world and illegally settled in Azerbaijan, causing forest fires in Lachin district and surrounding areas.

For information, let's note that on November 10, 2020, in accordance with the relevant clauses of the Tripartite statement, the Lachin region and its surrounding areas should have been handed over to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

This process is currently nearing completion, and by the end of August 2022, people who have illegally settled in that area, regardless of their identity, should be removed from the region.

These people, who have lived illegally in Lachin region and surrounding villages for nearly 30 years, burn centuries-old forests and commit environmental terrorism when they leave the area.

During the occupation period, the Armenians who burned Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli, Kalbajar, Shusha forests, starting from Topkhana forests, and after the Tripartite Declaration, did not stop with destroying forests, houses, historical and cultural monuments in Kalbajar and other territories, are now intentionally damaging the environment by burning our forest areas in Lachin.

The most terrible thing is that, as if they vandalized the surface of the earth, they also pollute the underground with mines.

Today, these ugly acts committed on the lands of Azerbaijan are not only against the people of Azerbaijan, but against the entire humanity and humanity."

The appeal states that the Republic of Azerbaijan is constantly working to protect the ecological balance and ensure that its citizens live in a healthy environment, and non-governmental organizations are closely involved in this process:

"We, as a group of civil society organizations, condemn the ecological terror carried out by the Armenian population in the Lachin region and in the Karabakh territories as a whole, and we ask international organizations to evaluate this issue, as well as to support the condemnation of these inhuman acts at the international level."
