After the explosions at the warehouse near Dzhankoy and the air base near Simferopol in Crimea, Russian troops intensified their shelling of Ukrainian cities.

Already in the second half of August 16, air alarms sounded throughout the territory of Ukraine.

Not only Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions were hit by rockets, but also Zhytomyr region, which was also shelled by Russian aircraft from the territory of Belarus at the end of June.

Zhytomyr Region was shelled by Russian planes from the airspace of Belarus

The Center Air Command clarified that two Kh-59 guided air missiles were fired from Russian Su-34 bombers that were in the airspace of Belarus at that time.

Rockets hit a military airfield near Zhytomyr and damaged the runway and several cars.

There are no victims among the personnel of the Ukrainian army - everyone managed to hide in shelter.

The day before, the spokesman of the command of the Air Force of Ukraine,

Yury Ignat

, said that Russia has increased the number of its aircraft along the borders of Ukraine - at various airfields in Belarus, Russia and Crimea.

In particular, according to him, there are 360 combat helicopters near the Ukrainian borders.

At the beginning of the war there were 250 of them.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valer Zaluzhny, in a telephone conversation with the Chief of Defense Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces,

Wayne Donald Eyre

, expressed concern over the deployment of Russian missile systems by Belarus, in particular, at the Zybravka airfield in the Gomel region.

Russian troops continue their offensive along the entire front line

According to Zaluzhny, Russian troops fire 700-800 times on Ukrainian positions every day, using 40,000 to 60,000 rounds of ammunition.

First of all, Russia is trying to push Ukrainian troops out of the Donetsk region.

The most tense situation is now in the direction of Avdeivka — Piaski — Maryinka.

At the same time, the Russians continue to terrorize Mykolaiv and Kharkiv, as well as Morganets and Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

A new attack on Zatoka in the Odesa region

On the night of August 17, Russia attacked the Gulf from the Black Sea with two Kh-22 missiles from Tu-22 aircraft.

As a result of shelling, four civilians were injured, 7 buildings of the recreation center and 15 summer houses were damaged.

At the same time, the intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain reported that the explosions in Crimea on August 16 will force Russia to review the situation in the south in connection with the explosions at two of its bases in Crimea, which is the rear of Russian troops.

Experts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) are convinced that the explosions near Dzhankou and Gvardzeisky caused significant damage to Russian resources and seriously disrupted Russia's logistical support.

The ISW reported that there is no evidence of the use of American weapons for attacks on Crimea, but in the event that they were carried out by Ukraine, this does not contradict its obligations to foreign partners, since Crimea is Ukrainian territory.
