The issue of death of a Dalit student in Rajasthan is slowly becoming hot.

A school teacher allegedly thrashed a Dalit student so much that he died.

In fact, the student allegedly tried to drink water from a vessel meant for the "upper castes".

However, the death of a Dalit student is now turning into a political crisis for the ruling Congress.

Jaipur: 10 latest developments related to the death of Dalit student:

  • The opposition BJP is not only attacking Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's government, but he has also been surrounded by his own party people.

    Congress leaders are also not shying away from criticizing the Gehlot government.

  • Congress MLA from Baran-Atru, Panachand Meghwal has sent his resignation to the Chief Minister expressing deep grief over the death of a 9-year-old student.

    Taking a jibe at caste-related crimes in the state, he said that the police do not act quickly.

  • Congress leader Sachin Pilot is going to Jalore to meet the victim's family.

    It is important to mention here that two years ago, Gehlot's government was about to fall due to the rebellion of Sachin Pilot.

  • Pilot said, "We have to put an end to incidents like Jalore. We have to assure the people of Dalit society that we stand with them."

    "The government is taking appropriate action and will do so in future also. We should politicize such issue," he said.

  • Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has now sent senior cabinet ministers and state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasara to Jalore for not allowing Sachin Pilot to take political advantage.

  • Nine-year-old Indra was allegedly thrashed by the teacher for drinking water from a vessel used by upper caste people.

    Indra's eyes and ears were injured due to the beating.

    The accident happened on July 20 in a private school.

    He was then taken to a hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat where he died last week.

  • The police have arrested the teacher and charged him with murder and under strict laws that protect India's scheduled castes and tribes.

  • The FIR registered in the case states that Indra was "naive and did not know that the utensils were kept aside for the upper caste teacher".

    The FIR states, "Teacher Chail Singh told the boy, 'You are from a lower caste. How dare you drink water from my pitcher!'

    Then beat him fiercely.

  • Talking to the media, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had said that he has directed the officials to ensure speedy investigation of the matter.

    Announcing an assistance of Rs 5 lakh, he had said, "Justice will be ensured at the earliest to the victim's family."

  • Targeting the state government, BJP said that the death of the child is shameful.

    The state BJP had tweeted, "When will Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra suggest Mr. Gehlot to ensure justice for Dalits in Rajasthan."
