The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, is on an official visit to Kosovo, his first visit abroad since he was elected president.

During the visit to Pristina, Begaj was received by the president of the country, Vjosa Osmani, the prime minister Albin Kurti, meanwhile he declared about Kosovo's membership in NATO, the dialogue with Serbia, etc.

During the meeting with President Osmani, the latter asked Albania to sign a treaty for common defense.

The President of the country, Vjosa Osmani, received on Monday with a state ceremony the President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, who visited Kosovo for the first time as a president abroad.

Osmani, after the meeting with his Albanian counterpart, proposed in a media conference that between Kosovo and Albania there should be a treaty for mutual protection in case the security of the two states is compromised, Telegrafi reports.

The president also said that this is a good proposal of hers.

Osmani said that it is time to take appropriate steps in this direction to protect the security of the two states.

"Regarding our bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defense, it is more important to have a mutual defense treaty with Albania, with which we will react in a reciprocal manner in case of an attack on our two states.

It has been several years since I made such a proposal that is in harmony with international practices and is applied by many countries, so I think it is time to take appropriate steps in this direction", said Osmani.

According to her, the fact that Albania is a member of NATO creates greater security in the entire region, at this time, as she said, when the security architecture is being challenged.

"Not only here, but also in our continent and beyond, security has become a priority.

Therefore, in addition to our request for Kosovo's membership in NATO, which remains our constant goal, we are doing full coordination with our strategic partners so that our region feels safer every day", emphasized Osmani.

Osmani also emphasized that "our strategic objective remains membership in the EU and NATO".

"Therefore, we will apply for the status of a candidate country in the EU at the end of this year and we will count on Albania's experience after it has successfully passed these processes", said the president of the country, among other things.

President Bajram Begaj has said that Albania strongly supports Kosovo's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO).

Begaj during a media conference, after the meeting with the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani stated that Albania will support our country in all international organizations.

"Albania strongly supports Kosovo's membership in NATO and appreciates that the Alliance remains a guarantee of peace in the region and a strategic ally of Kosovo and Albania", said Begaj.

Congratulating him on taking office, Prime Minister Kurti expressed his gratitude that President Begaj made his first official visit to Kosovo after taking office.

He congratulated Albania for opening negotiations with the European Union and reiterated the commitment and willingness to continue cooperation, as well as the further deepening and expansion of relations between our two countries.

Speaking about the concrete cooperation between the two republics, the importance of the project for the Durrës-Prishtina railway was discussed, especially investments in defense and security, as a matter of sovereignty, for which the cooperation of both countries was requested in this direction.

President Begaj expressed his full support for the fastest possible liberalization of visas for the citizens of Kosovo and for Kosovo's admission to the Council of Europe.

He also expressed his support for the government's decisions regarding the reciprocity of license plates and identification documents, and congratulated Prime Minister Kurti for the prudence and calmness shown regarding the developments of July 31.

Begaj said that Kosovo's independence is irreversible and emphasized the support for Kosovo's positions in the dialogue with Serbia, which, as he said, should be concluded with a final agreement centered on mutual recognition.

Appreciating the excellent relations, they agreed that there should be more coordination in regional politics, in accordance with the democratic orientation, the common goal of EU membership and the strengthening of the North Atlantic Alliance.

The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, during his stay in Kosovo, paid tribute today at the "Adem Jashari" memorial complex in Prekaz.

After the tributes near the cemetery of over 50 murdered Jashari family, Begaj also visited the tower where for a few minutes he listened to the story of the attacks by the Serbian armed forces.

President Begaj also visited the museum in Prekaz, where there are many photos, documents and testimonies of the Serbian genocide.

Meanwhile, today on the second day of his visit to Kosovo, Begaj will meet tomorrow with the leaders of the opposition parties, the commander of KFOR, the troops of the Albanian Armed Forces within the framework of KFOR in Pejë, as well as the mayor of Prizren, Shaqir Total.
