New Delhi :

The incidents of discrimination against people on the basis of caste in the country are still not taking the name of stopping.

In Rajasthan, a Dalit boy was beaten to death by a teacher for drinking water from a pot.

Former Lok Sabha speaker and Congress leader Meira Kumar also admitted that incidents of discrimination against people on the basis of caste are still going on in the country.

Referring to this shocking incident in Rajasthan, Meira Kumar said in a tweet, "100 years ago my father Babu Jagjivan Ram was stopped from getting water from a pot of upper caste Hindus in the school. It was a miracle that His life was saved. He said that today because of this a 9-year-old Dalit child was killed. Even after 75 years of independence, casteism is our biggest enemy. It is a stigma."

Somehow his life was saved.

Even after 75 years of independence, casteism is our biggest enemy.

There is a stigma.

Speaking before NDTV on the issue of discrimination against Dalits even in the 21st century, Meira Kumar said, "Whatever has happened is very appalling. 100 years ago my father was saved but after 100 years the child lost his life. He said, "I once asked my father, Babu Jagjivan Ram, why did you fight for freedom for this country? Why did you take this risk? This country has done this for you and for the downtrodden. Didn't do anything, you people had to face humiliation and atrocities, then they had said that independent India will change. We will get a casteless society. I am glad that (to hear such incidents) they are not there today. Even 75 years of independence India has changed in this matter. It is very sad."
