Less than two weeks after the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, visited Taiwan, a delegation of congressmen arrived on that island to meet with local authorities.

China rejected that step, accused Washington of seeking a confrontation and warned that there will be a forceful response to the new provocation.

The Chinese embassy in the United States reiterated Beijing's opposition to any official contact with Taipei, saying that

the White House only fuels instability in the region and blamed Washington for a potential increase in tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

In this context, the diplomatic headquarters urged the Joe Biden government to demand that legislators be consistent with the

"one China" principle.

The CGTN channel condemned the two-day stay in Taipei of the bipartisan delegation, headed by Senator Ed Markey and made up of five other congressmen.

According to the television station, this movement shows that Washington is sabotaging peace and justifies more countermeasures from Beijing, such as those implemented after the trip to the island by the president of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, on August 2 and 3.

CGTN repudiated and described as a terrible mistake that in the last 18 months the United States approved five arms sales to Taiwan and allowed the visits of three groups of parliamentarians.

"It is foolish to test the capacity of a nation so determined and determined to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity,"

warned CGTN.

The

China Daily

newspaper stressed that for Taiwan such visits would lead to a tightening of the military blockade and economic punishment, while US politicians would face sanctions and restrictions on business with the Asian giant.

He warned that the consequences would affect the entire world, because if a conflict breaks out over the issue, inflation would skyrocket even more, the price of food would increase and the energy crisis would worsen.

“Only Wall Street, arms dealers and belligerent politicians in the United States would profit, at the expense of the people,” the newspaper added.

Markey and his entourage arrived in Taipei on Sunday unannounced.

This Monday they spoke with the Taiwanese leader, Tsai Ing-wen, and will meet with other government and private sector representatives before closing their stay in a few hours.

Beijing responded to Pelosi's visit to Taiwan with a combination of military, diplomatic, political and trade measures.

As a result of the congressmen's visit, the Chinese Ministry of Defense and the Eastern Command of its army announced on Monday new drills in the skies and waters around Taiwan

, which are intended to serve as "a determined response and a solemn deterrence against the collusion and provocation between the United States and Taiwan,” according to the military body.

Last Friday, in an interview published in

The Wall Street Journal

, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger considered that his country is on the verge of war with Moscow and Beijing for reasons of which Washington is a co-author.

"We are on the brink of war with Russia and China over issues that we partly created, with no idea how this is going to end or what it's supposed to lead to

," Kissinger said.

“Now it cannot be said that we are going to separate and confront (Russia and China).

The only thing that can be done is not to accelerate tensions and create options, and for that you have to have some purpose," added the former senior official, arguing that

the United States should seek a "balance" with the two countries.

Regarding the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, Kissinger, 99, believed that

the West should have taken the Kremlin's security concerns seriously

and called it a "mistake" that "NATO indicated to Ukraine that it could eventually join the alliance. ”.
