The first secretary of the Communist Party and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, reiterated this Monday that Cuba will not forget the support of Mexicans and Venezuelans who supported the confrontation with the fire of great proportions at the supertanker base in Matanzas and assured that they will always they will have the gratitude and affection of Cubans.

“We will never forget the heroism and brotherhood of the Mexicans and Venezuelans who came to support us in the fight against the fire,” the president wrote on Twitter.

"Our eternal gratitude, recognition and affection," he added.

In his tweet, Díaz-Canel replicates an article from the

Granma

newspaper that reviews the award ceremony, held this Sunday, for collaborators from Mexico and Venezuela who participated in the confrontation with the fire that affected the Matanzas industrial zone.

At the ceremony,

members of the solidarity contingents received the replica of the machete of Major General Antonio Maceo Grajales and the Friendship Medal, which is awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.

Letters sent by the Cuban head of state to his counterparts from Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and from Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, were also read, highlighting the exemplary attitude of those sent by those nations, who without heeding risks joined fighting the flames from the first hours.
