A magnitude 5 earthquake was registered today in the Aegean Sea in Kusadasi Bay (in the region of Izmir County, Western Turkey), Turkish state television TRT-Haber reported, citing the government's Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD).

The earthquake occurred at 6:24 a.m. in the sea at a depth of 7 kilometers.

The epicenter of the earthquake was not far from the town of Menderes. 

The tremor was felt in many towns in the county, including the resort of Kusadasi, as well as on neighboring Greek islands.

Magnitude 4.2 earthquake in northern Turkey

So far, there is no information about material damage or injuries caused by the earthquake.

The earthquake caused a strong panic among the population and tourists, notes BTA.
