China's air force is sending fighter jets and bombers to Thailand for joint exercises with the Thai armed forces starting tomorrow, the Associated Press reported.

China's growing military activity in the Asia-Pacific region worries the United States and its allies and is one component of the intensifying strategic and economic competition between the world's two largest economies, the Associated Press notes.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin visited Thailand in June to try to bolster what he described as America's "unparalleled network of alliances and partnerships" in the region.

The Falcon Strike exercise will be conducted at the Thai Air Force Base Udorn in northern Thailand, not far from the border with Laos.

Taiwan expresses its "sincere gratitude" to the US

The drills will be held against the background of the ongoing joint exercises in Indonesia by the US, Indonesia, Australia, Japan and Singapore.
