By the end of 2025, Bulgaria should have five medical helicopters purchased with funds from the Recovery Plan.

This was announced to BTV by the Deputy Prime Minister for the management of European funds.

"The project to provide emergency medical assistance by air was an initiative of President Rumen Radev.

It was laid out in the Recovery and Resilience Plan last year.

We believe that this is an extremely important project, as we are the last country that does not have such a system," said Pekanov.

He emphasized that this project will move forward in the coming weeks or months.

"At the end of the year, the public procurement must be announced, and at the beginning of 2023, the contractor must be selected," explained Pekanov.

According to him, by the end of 2025 there will have to be trained pilots as well as the so-called

hangars where the helicopters are stored.

The estimated value for them is nearly BGN 163 million.
