An eruption occurred in the Lokbatan mud volcano located in Garadagh district of Baku city in the morning today.

APA reports that Arzu Babayeva, an official of the Biological Diversity Protection Service, said that there are no settlements around the mud volcano.

"Currently, experts of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources are studying the eruption and its consequences, and appropriate monitoring is being carried out."

It should be noted that the Lokbatan mud volcano is located 15 km southwest of Baku on the coast of the Caspian Sea in the oil field of the same name.

Lokbatan mud volcano is one of the 5 most active mud volcanoes in the world.

Since 1810, the volcano has erupted 25 times.

The last eruption of the volcano was recorded in 2017.
