Mexican security forces have carried out a series of arrests of members of drug cartels, sparking riots in two states, the AP reported.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that the arrests were made in the state of Jalisco, but did not specify the names of those arrested.

According to him, during a detention operation during a "meeting between two gangs" there was a shootout between the soldiers of the Mexican army and criminals, among whom there were also "bosses".

Drug cartels have angered the Mexican president

After the shootout and arrests, there were burnings of cars in the states of Jalisco and Guanajuato.

Footage of the riots appeared on social networks.

Drug cartels often create such chaos to prevent security forces from transporting arrested cartel bosses.
