Three fighters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, who fought against the forces of Ukraine, were sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Ukrainian court, the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN reported, quoted by BTA. 

They were captured by the Ukrainian troops at the end of March, during battles in the Sumy region.  

The three convicts fought on the side of Russia in the conflict in Ukraine.

The court found them guilty of treason.

The accused were sentenced to 15 years in prison, and their punishment included the confiscation of their property.  

According to the investigation, on February 24, the convicts, who are not professional soldiers, voluntarily joined the pro-Russian fighters and received military uniforms, weapons and ammunition.

At the beginning of March, servicemen from the armed forces of Russia gave them a short military training on the territory of the Belgorod region, after which they were sent to fight in the Sumy region.
