The Assembly of Kosovo should prioritize the adoption of the Civil Code in the fall session, Ehat Miftaraj from the Kosovo Institute of Justice (IKD) told Ekonomia Online.

That the same will be brought to the Assembly for approval, said the head of deputies of the VV, Mimoza Kusari-Lila.

But on this occasion, Miftaraj has said that the importance of this Code is vital for justice in Kosovo, which he says would regulate many issues.

"The Civil Code should be a priority of priorities not only for the Assembly but for all political parties, but at the same time the Government should lobby Prime Minister Kurti for this Code to be approved and passed during this calendar year.

We are not talking about an ordinary legal code or initiative, we are talking about a codification of civil justice in Kosovo, which would regulate issues that are scattered in a large number of outdated laws in civil justice in Kosovo", he said.

"Even against the fact that a lot of importance is being given to the issues that in some way are preventing the adoption of the Civil Code, this code should be seen as a set of legal norms that would facilitate the life of the citizen, would facilitate the work of the system judiciary in Kosovo and would promote human rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.

I believe that in addition to the issues related to the union of same-sex marriages, there are also other issues that are important for Kosovo and which should be approved and this code passed as soon as possible in the Assembly of Kosovo. he says.

Miftaraj has accused the Vetëvendosje Movement of misusing the civil code for a political agenda, as he has asked the head of the Government to promote this Code to his party.

"I do not believe that it has been misunderstood how much it is being misused by the ruling party for a political agenda or for a handful of votes.

I believe that we all know that a right guaranteed by the Constitution, that right is only strengthened in practice.

I believe that deputies and citizens understand how important the civil code is.

So we are talking about a systematic law which regulates one area extremely much, but in a certain way in public the parties in power give a different direction and I believe that Prime Minister Kurti himself should promote the idea that this Code be approved", stated Miftaraj, for economyonline.
