Under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, NDA got a big victory in the 2010 assembly elections.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resigned from the post.

After the meeting of JDU MLAs and MPs on Tuesday morning, Nitish Kumar had announced to break the alliance with BJP.

Nitish Kumar will take oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the eighth time on Wednesday.

Nitish Kumar has been active in the politics of Bihar since the Bihar student movement of 1974.

He was also instrumental in making Lalu Prasad the Chief Minister in 1990.

Later, his relationship with Lalu Prasad deteriorated and he formed the Samta Party with George Fernandes.

After which he joined the NDA before the 1996 Lok Sabha elections.

With time, Nitish Kumar became the Railway Minister at the Center and later in 2000 he took oath as the Chief Minister for the first time.

However, the majority could not be proved.

First time MLA in 1985:

After defeat in 1977 and 1980 assembly elections, Nitish Kumar became MLA for the first time in 1985 from Harnaut assembly seat.

Became MP for the first time in 1989:

Nitish Kumar became MP for the first time in 1989 from Barh parliamentary constituency of Bihar, later he also won in 1996, 1998 and 1999 Lok Sabha elections. 

Ministers made in the Central Government:

In 1998, Nitish Kumar became the Railway Minister at the Center, in 1999 he became the Agriculture Minister.

During this, in the year 2000, he was made CM in Bihar from NDA, although he could not prove his majority.

005 RJD government was removed as CM

: In the mid-term elections held in 2005, Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister for the first time with a majority, although this was his second oath as Chief Minister.

Big victory in 2010:

Under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, NDA got a big victory in the 2010 assembly elections.

The NDA alliance won 206 seats in the 243-member assembly.

JDU got success in 115 seats alone.

Separated from NDA for the first time in the year 2013:

Angered by BJP making Narendra Modi its PM candidate, Nitish Kumar withdrew his party from NDA. 

Took oath as CM for the fourth time in 2015

: Nitish Kumar left the CM post after the defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

But later due to a dispute with Jitan Ram Manjhi, he once again took the command in his hands in 2015.

Oath taken for the fifth time after winning the

2015 assembly elections: In the 2015 assembly elections, the RJD, Congress and JDU alliance got a big victory under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.

After which Nitish Kumar took oath as CM for the fifth time.

Parted from the Grand Alliance in 2017:

After allegations of corruption against the Lalu family, Nitish Kumar resigned from the post and soon after he took oath as CM for the sixth time with the support of BJP.

 Became CM for the seventh time after winning the 2020 election:

 Nitish Kumar's party won only 43 seats in the 2020 assembly elections, but the BJP alliance got the majority figure in this election as well.

Expressing faith in Nitish Kumar, BJP made Nitish Kumar as CM and Nitish took oath as CM for the seventh time.

Separated from NDA on 9 August 2022:

Accusing BJP of trying to break JDU, Nitish Kumar broke ties with NDA and he resigned from the post of Chief Minister.


Will take oath as CM for the eighth time:

After separating from NDA, once again with the support of RJD, Congress and Left parties, Nitish Kumar can take oath as CM of Bihar for the eighth time.
