The fourth heat wave of the season hit France from its southwestern part, with temperatures as high as 37 degrees Celsius forecast and spreading across the rest of the country during the week.

The scenario is unusual and experts attribute it to the consequences of climate change, since the previous episode, recorded between the end of July and the beginning of August, still affects southeastern France, in particular the Rhône valley and its surroundings, where yesterday 37 degrees were recorded in the city of Nimes and 36 in Avignon.

According to Météo France, the new heat wave, which follows those experienced in June (early), the beginning of July and the last few days, will last until August 15, with the temperature peak set for Friday.

The specialist of that agency François Jobard considered that the last two rises in the thermometer could be treated as the same dog days, longer than the usual ones.

Therefore, we are talking about a heat wave of 15 days, a duration that is too long, he specified to the Franceinfo chain.

Given the new episode, the number of departments under surveillance will probably skyrocket again as of Friday, in a scenario that generates concern when combined with the severe prevailing drought, a situation that fuels forest fires and affects agriculture.

Météo France predicts that the episode will impact the south-west from tomorrow, to continue its expansion towards the north on Wednesday and in later days towards the center and the eastern part of France.

Each heat wave in France generates concern and brings to mind the one recorded in 2003, to which 15,000 deaths are attributed.

In this sense, the national and local authorities urge the population to stay safe and hydrated, to avoid strong physical exercises and alcohol, and to care for the most vulnerable people.
