Beijing:
The Chinese military practiced island saturation strikes in the Taiwan Strait on the fourth day of the largest military exercise ever to express its anger over US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
The exercise came amid global concerns of a full-scale attack to capture the isolated island.
Beijing claims that it (Taiwan) is part of its territory.
The PLA Eastern Theater Command said, "During the four-day exercise, several batches of warplanes belonging to the Eastern Theater Command Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducted joint land strikes and focused long-range strikes. With systematic island assault and air strikes practiced.
State-run Global Times reported that the PLA went ahead with the plan on Sunday and continued realistic battle-scenario joint exercises in the sea and airspace around the island of Taiwan.
Island capture exercises and bomber deterrent flights in the Taiwan Strait were a rehearsal of the actual operation.
However, there is no official announcement when the exercise will end.
Reports said the PLA is reviewing the impact of the unprecedented war, which includes all wings of its military, amid ongoing questions about China's next course of action.
Over the past four days, the Chinese military has shot down hundreds of planes, drones and missiles of varying ranges, in what Taiwan called "fake attacks" and appealed for international help.
China on Tuesday and Wednesday suspended a series of defense and military exchanges with the US, in addition to imposing sanctions on Pelosi in protest against his visit to Taipei.
Actually, Beijing is angry with Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
It has seen this as a violation of the "one China" policy.
