The Cuban national team won this Saturday 3.5-0.5 against Austria and rose to 25th place in the women's competition, after the seventh round of the 2022 Chennai Chess Olympiad.

Yerisbel Miranda assumed the defense of the first board due to Lisandra Ordaz's break and from this position she defeated Chiara Polteraue, a result that, together with the successes of Yaniela Forgas against Nikola Mayrhuber and Ineymig Hernández against Elisabeth Hapala, sentenced the match.

The equality was signed by Maritza Arribas at the second table in front of Denise Trippold.

Now the women of the Island show 11 points in a ranking that keeps the host team on top with 15 points, after tying at two with Ukraine.

The locals will face Poland this Sunday, the Ukrainians will face Georgia and Cuba will face the Czech Republic.

In the open section, the male team from the Island faced Andorra and, at least in terms of numbers, a better result seemed possible.

But reality does not always conform to forecasts and that happened with the tie at two units, finalized after a couple of draws and a victory per side.

Yasser Quesada agreed to peace with Lance Henderson de la Fuente and Isán Ortiz did the same with Oscar de la Riva.

Meanwhile, Luis Ernesto Quesada defeated Jordi Fluvia and Omar Almeida lost at the fourth table to Josep María Rivera.

Adding a unit left the Cubans with 11 stripes in 27th place to face France this Sunday, another strong team.

The news of the round was provided by the India 2 team by defeating the very strong team of the United States, one of the favorites for the throne.

The youngster D. Gukesh continues “without brakes” and reached seven wins, the most recent against Fabiano Caruana, one of the stars of the contest.

Armenia remained on top with 15 points out of a possible 16, after beating the main host team 2.5-1.5.
