Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Rajendra Rathod said that the statement made by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot about the rise in incidents of murder after rape with the provision of capital punishment is unfortunate and shameful.

He said the chief minister, who is also the head of the home department, could not escape the failure of his government in the rise of rape cases in the state by making absurd statements.

While addressing the press in Delhi on Friday, Ashok Gehlot spoke on various issues like inflation, Agniveer scheme, corruption, democracy, unemployment and crime.

He had said that, "After the Nirbhaya case, a new law has come for the convicts of rape, due to which the incidents of murder after rape have increased.

The rapist, now sees that she will become a witness against me tomorrow and kills the girls.

This is a dangerous trend being seen all over the country, as the reports are coming.

Rajendra Rathod said, "If you have the courage to bring a resolution in the assembly against this law, we will give a befitting reply." Rathod said that 16 incidents of rape are taking place in Rajasthan every day, but Gehlot said that rape 48 percent of the cases are false.

He said that instead of breaking the morale of the rapists by making such statements again and again, the Chief Minister is working to boost their morale.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's OSD Shashikant Sharma said that "he (Gehlot) had given a statement on rising unemployment, inflation and rising crimes, which has been presented in a distorted manner by the BJP's IT cell."
