New Delhi/Kolkata:

Trinamool Congress MP and leader of the party in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay has written to his co-MP Shishir Adhikari, asking him to explain why he participated in the vice-presidential election even though the party had decided to abstain from voting.

The party had alleged that he was not consulted while deciding the joint opposition candidate for the post.

Trinamool Congress western unit spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said in Kolkata that if someone violates the party's guidelines, it shows that he is close with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Bandopadhyay said, "Please refer to my letter dated August 4, 2022 informing you that the members of our Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha parliamentary parties are to remain absent in the Vice-President elections of August 6, 2022."

In a letter to the officer, Bandopadhyay said, "We have come to know that you have voted for the post of Vice President."

No party can issue a whip for the Vice Presidential election.

Therefore, Trinamool Congress cannot take action against Shishir Adhikari in Lok Sabha for not complying with the party's instructions.

Along with Shishir Adhikari, his son Dibyendu Adhikari has also voted in the Vice Presidential election.

His second son, Shubhendu Adhikari, had joined the BJP ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections and is currently the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

In this whole matter, BJP National Vice President Dilip Ghosh said that the two MPs have done the right thing and everyone in the state should vote in favor of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar for the post of Vice President.
