A serious bus accident occurred on the A4 highway in the direction of Zagreb, Croatia.

At least 12 people lost their lives and at least 18 were seriously injured.

The accident happened around 05:40 on the 62nd kilometer of the A4 highway in the direction of Zagreb between Jarek Bisask and Podvorec.

A bus with Polish license plates has gone off the road.

This is one of the worst bus accidents that have happened on Croatian roads in the last 50 years.

Instead of the maximum permitted speed of 40 km/h, the driver of the vehicle entered the section at about 100 km/h, which sent the bus hitting the guard rails and overturning.

Two female passengers died in the accident, while the third died six days later in hospital.

The driver pleaded guilty to causing the accident in the court of Karlovac.

Three people died when the bus landed in a ravine on February 13, 2007

On February 13 of the same year, a bus on the Zagreb-Dubrovnik route fell into a ravine at the Opuzen intersection, killing three people and injuring 13 others.

The accidents were caused by poor visibility, strong south wind and rain.

14 children died when a train hit a bus on September 22, 1989

Perhaps the worst accident that can be remembered in Croatia happened before 1990.

On September 22, 1989, a train collided with a bus at 8:36 am.

14 children lost their lives in the terrible accident.

A special bus operated by the company Zagorje-trans from Veliko Trgovisçe transported primary school students Ante Kovacic from Marija Gorica on an excursion to Stubičke Toplice.
