Voting is underway for the post of Vice President.

This time the contest is between NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar and opposition joint candidate Margaret Alva.

If we look at the figures, the victory of Dhankhar, the former Governor of West Bengal, is visible.

Where, Jagdeep Dhankhar is estimated to get close to 515 votes.

At the same time, considering the support of the parties that Alva has got so far, it is being estimated that she can get close to 200 votes.

If Jagdeep Dhankhar wins the election, then for the first time the country will get a Vice President who belongs to the OBC community.

Apart from this, there will be another Vice President, who has been born after the country's independence.

Interesting information related to the post of Vice President of India

  • So far, there have been only two Vice Presidents in India, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Hamid Ansari, who got a second term.

    At the same time, till now there have been 13 Vice-Presidents in the country, out of which 6 later became the President.

  • Gopal Swaroop Pathak, BD Jatti, Mohammad Hidayatullah, Krishan Kant, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Hamid Ansari and M Venkaiah Naidu, who were in the post of Vice President, could not become the President. 

  • KR Narayanan and Hamid Ansari were the two Vice Presidents who were not leaders but bureaucrats.

    Both of them were in the Indian Foreign Service. 

  • Till now, only two BJP's Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and M Venkaiah Naidu have been Vice Presidents.

    Congress has had the maximum number of five vice-presidents.

  • There were three Vice Presidents who were lawyers by profession- Gopal Swaroop Pathak, Mohammad Hidayatullah and R Venkataraman.

    If Jagdeep Dhankhar wins, he will be fourth.

  • R Venkataraman became the only Vice President who was a member of the Constituent Assembly and later became the President.

    Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was the only Vice President who contested the Presidential election while in this position and lost.

  • KR Narayanan was the only Vice President whose wife was a foreigner.

    While in IFS, married Burmese citizen Ma Tint Tint, who later changed his name to Usha Narayan.

  • According to the Constitution, the Vice President is the second highest constitutional post after the President.

    The Vice President is the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

    In the absence of the President, the Vice President takes his place.
