PFAS (per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances), known as “perpetual chemicals,” are used in a wide range of applications, including food wrapping and packaging materials, dental floss, fire-fighting foam,

non-stick cookware, textiles and electronics.

The US Environmental Protection Agency released the results of the study.

Some of these chemicals can be harmful to humans and wildlife, for example by affecting fertility.

development in children

changes in bone and behavior

Increase the risk of diseases such as certain types of cancer, etc.

PFAS is not readily degradable in the environment and is toxic even at small concentrations.

causing the need to accelerate and destroy

But it's not easy because PFAS is very stable.

It is made up of chains of carbon and fluorine atoms linked together.

It is one of the strongest chemical bonds.

The current method of destruction is incineration.

But the process is multi-step and expensive.

But recently a team of scientists from the University of Washington

in the United States

Revealed that it has invented a new biological treatment technology.

By using plant material to absorb and eliminate PFAS.

The team explains that the plant cell wall material absorbs PFAS, then that material and its absorbent chemicals.

will become food for microorganisms such as fungi

The fungus will eat the substance, or simply called the fungus, is doing the detoxification process.

The team sees this as a sustainable treatment system with powerful potential to remove harmful chemicals.

To protect human health and ecosystems in a more non-toxic and cost-effective way than before.
