The tragic case that happened on Tuesday at the Potam beach in Himara, has caused the police in Albania to increase checks and take actions for safety on the beaches and the danger from water motors.

The director of the State Police, Gladis Nano from Dhërmiu beach, said that the police are doubly responsible for the tragic case in Potam, since in addition to violating the rules of the movement of watercraft, the offender himself was a policeman.

"First of all, I want to convey my sincere condolences to the Avdia family, who lost their little girl in a tragic accident yesterday.

We are twice responsible as the State Police for this event, given that the author of this event was a police officer," said Nano.

He said that the author of yesterday's incident was arrested red-handed, at the scene of the incident.

"I ask the judicial authorities to give a maximum sentence.

I am very determined, as you can see even today, I am leading the operation in Dhërmi myself, for escorting, blocking and verifying all vessels, their documentation and the procedure they follow to go out to sea.

Just as I am determined to have zero tolerance for any law breakers and endangering the lives of vacationers, I am determined and with zero tolerance to punish any police officer who is unworthy, abuses trust, abuses of duty and is negligent in carrying out of duty".

He also indicated that after the analysis carried out by the inspection group, he has dismissed the entire chain of command of the leaders of the Local Directorate for Border and Migration Vlora.

Until now, around 90 jet skis and about 40 other watercraft have been blocked along the entire coastline, from Ksamil to Velipojë, according to the police.
