The Basic Agreement between the government of Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Church in Podgorica has been signed.

The agreement was signed by the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazović, and the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Porfirije.

In the photo posted on Telegram, Abazović can be seen that the Minister of Justice, Marko Kovac and the Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church of Montenegro, Joanikije, participated in the signing ceremony.

Porfirijea had arrived earlier in Podgorica without any warning for an official visit, while part of the local media had reported that the signing will take place on August 3, but the head of the government, Dritan Abazović, had denied it.

"I don't know the time of the signing, but I think that this process should be carried out to the end.

August 3 as the date of signing, according to me, is misinformation, since the date has not been specified", said Abazović.

Dozens of citizens have gathered near the Gorica villa to oppose the signed agreement.

To prevent any possible excesses, the police have blocked the roads leading to the villa.

This agreement reached forced Millo Djukanović and his party to announce that they will launch the initiative for a no-confidence motion against the government of Montenegro.

"The agreement signed today, which is contrary to the Constitution of Montenegro, will be suspended immediately after the new Government comes to power," says the post of Djukanović's party.
